BOOM! I can hardly contain my excitement! The bags are (mostly) packed, the camera gear is gleaming, and the anticipation is bubbling like a geyser! We are OFF to Kyrgyzstan! That’s right, the Land of Celestial Mountains, the heart of Central Asia, and a country that stole a piece of my soul years ago.

For those of you who have been following my adventures, you know I’ve been itching to return to Kyrgyzstan for a long time. I had the incredible opportunity to explore this breathtaking land for a whole month a few years back, and the raw beauty, the vibrant culture, and the sheer, untamed spirit of the place completely captivated me.

And now… I’m going back! But this time, it’s even BETTER! I’m not just going as a solo traveler; I’m leading a group of passionate photographers and adventurous souls on a 2-week photographic journey through the heart of Kyrgyzstan! This isn’t just another photography workshop; this is an immersion into a way of life, a connection with the land, and a chance to capture the authentic soul of Kyrgyzstan.

But wait, there’s more! This isn’t just ANY group. I’m thrilled to be traveling with familiar faces, fellow travelers who have joined me on previous adventures in Uzbekistan and Cambodia! It’s like a travelling family reunion – the camaraderie, the shared passion, and the unwavering enthusiasm for discovering new cultures make these trips truly special. Knowing I have these amazing people by my side makes this adventure even more exhilarating!

Kyrgyzstan: More Than Just Majestic Mountains (Though They Are EPIC!)

Let’s be honest, Kyrgyzstan is known for its stunning landscapes. And rightly so! Think soaring snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear turquoise lakes, vast rolling steppes, and dramatic canyons carved by time and wind. It’s a photographer’s dream! And believe me, we’ll be capturing all that majestic beauty.

BUT… and this is a BIG “but”… this trip is about so much MORE than just pretty pictures of mountains.

You see, I’ve noticed that many photography workshops in Kyrgyzstan focus solely on the landscapes. They chase the golden hour light on the peaks, capture dramatic sunsets over Issyk-Kul Lake, and perfect their wide-angle compositions. Don’t get me wrong, those are incredible shots, and we’ll definitely be getting some!

However, I believe that true understanding of a place comes from connecting with its people. How can we visit Kyrgyzstan and not be absolutely mesmerized by its rich nomadic heritage? By the resilient people who call this rugged environment home? The shepherds who guide their flocks across the high pastures, the artisans who craft intricate felt carpets, the families who share their warmth and hospitality?

This is where our photo workshop takes a different turn.

“My Way”: Photography Rooted in Connection and Authenticity

My vision for this trip is to move beyond the surface and delve into the heart of Kyrgyz culture. We’re going to get off the beaten path, spend time with local families, learn about their traditions, and document their daily lives with respect and sensitivity.

Think of it: Imagine sitting down with a family in a yurt, sharing a cup of fermented mare’s milk (kumis!), and listening to their stories. Imagine capturing the determined glint in the eye of a young eagle hunter training his magnificent bird. Imagine witnessing the ancient game of Kok Boru (buzkashi) – a thrilling display of horsemanship and tradition.

That’s the kind of experience I want to create.

For those of you who have travelled with me before, you know that my photo tours are built on real, authentic experiences. We don’t just rush from one landmark to another, snapping photos from a distance. We take the time to connect with the people we meet, to learn about their lives, and to tell their stories through our lenses.
