Why We Added a Second Uzbekistan Photography Tour
Due to high demand, we are excited to launch a second annual Uzbekistan photography tour. This new edition takes place in March during the Navruz Festival, giving travelers and photographers a chance to capture Uzbekistan in spring with unique cultural experiences.
Just like our April–May Silk Road photography workshop, the itinerary takes you through Tashkent, Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. The only main difference? Cooler March weather and the unforgettable atmosphere of Navruz.

Uzbekistan Weather in March vs Early May
When deciding between the Navruz tour in March or our Uzbekistan photography tour in May, the biggest factor is climate.
March Weather in Uzbekistan (Navruz Season)
- Daytime temperatures: 10–20 °C (50–68 °F)
- Nights & mornings: 0–5 °C (32–41 °F), sometimes close to freezing
- Rainfall: March is a wetter months with occasional showers
- Photography feel: Blossoms, crisp skies, atmospheric spring contrasts
May Weather in Uzbekistan (Silk Road Tour)
- Daytime temperatures: 22–32 °C (71–89 °F)
- Nights & mornings: 12–18 °C (54–65 °F)
- Rainfall: Much drier, with bright skies
- Photography feel: Vibrant spring landscapes, golden-hour warmth, long shooting days
Key Weather Differences for Travelers and Photographers
- March/Navruz tour: Ideal for cooler weather, spring blossoms, and festival life.
- May photography workshop: Best for warmer days, longer daylight, and vibrant scenery.

Tourist Crowds in Uzbekistan: March vs May
When planning your Uzbekistan photography tour, it’s also important to consider tourist frequentation:
March (Navruz Season)
- Fewer international visitors, making sites like Registan in Samarkand and the Old City of Khiva less crowded.
- Perfect for intimate street photography and capturing authentic local life. For tips, see How to Photograph Uzbekistan’s Livestock Market
May (High Season)
- More tourists arrive (loclas and internationals) as the weather warms.
- Sites and hotels are busier, adding lively atmosphere to photos but sometimes making it harder to capture empty streets (but we still manage it easily with early starts)
